General Queries
How big a space will my oak toy box require?
About a square metre. A standard size baby changing mat will fit on the lid perfectly.
Can I stand on my oak toy box?
Yes, but please be careful.
How do the 'stay put' hinges stay put?
The torsion ‘stay put’ hinges installed on all of our oak toy boxes use an internal helical spring to provide continual resistance to the pivoting motion of the lid, making it possible to easily position the lid securely at any desired angle, preventing it from slamming down on tiny fingers.
How long will it take for my oak toy box to be delivered?
We make everything to order, so it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks from order to delivery.
How long can I expect my oak toy box to last?
A bit like us humans, the longevity of our oak toy boxes is dependent upon how tough its life has been and whether it has been well looked after. All things being equal, it will outlast you and me and live to see plenty of new generations of kids.
Oak Toy Box Specifications
How thick is the timber on my oak toy box?
It’s 19mm or if you prefer ¾ inch.
Is the reclaimed oak toy box full of holes?
Not anymore. We plug holes with oak dowel and dress any other small blemishes with premium oak paste. By the time we’ve sanded and put finish on our Reclaimed Oak Toy Box, it’s just as beautiful as one we’ve made with virgin timber - but with more character and a smaller carbon footprint.
How heavy is my oak toy box?
Our Large oak toy box weighs about 27 kilos or 60 lbs if you prefer, which is about the same as an average 6-8 year old child.
Oak Toy Box Finishing Options
What finish is used on the oak toy box?
We use a child-safe wax-oil that both nurtures and protects the wood while creating a moisture resistant easy-clean surface. It’s the same finish as used on many kitchen oak work surfaces.
Can I have my oak toy box painted rather than finished with clear wax-oil?
Give us a call on +44 (0)1608 644 178 and I’m sure we can sort something out.
Protecting Your Oak Toy Box
Should I get my oak toy box insured?
We do recommend that you put it on your Household Contents insurance alongside the rest of your valuable furniture. It shouldn’t cost you any extra on your premium and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
If my oak toy box gets damaged, can I get it repaired?
Give us a call on +44 (0)1608 644 178 and we’ll see what we can do.
